Ahmad Bazri's Persistence Pays Off with Takhti Cup Gold
In a weight class often dominated by names like Mojtaba Goleij and Olympic bronze medalist Amirali Azarpira, Ahmad Bazri emerged as the quiet force who made the biggest statement in Isfahan.
Bazri, long known for his discipline and consistency, defeated his veteran rival Goleij in a crucial early-round bout and went on to overcome Abolfazl Babalou in the final, claiming the 97 kg title at the 2025 Takhti Cup.
According to the national team’s selection process, Bazri will now head to a ranking tournament. If he earns the technical staff’s approval there, he will face Azarpira in a direct wrestle-off or possibly another international event for the right to represent Iran at the World Championships.
For years, Bazri has fought for a national team spot across 86, 92, and now 97 kg — a model of patience, grit, and professionalism. Now, his eyes are fixed on the next step: first the ranking tournament, then the battle with Azarpira.
